Magnetask
Slack integration

Turn Slack messages into tracked tasks.

Half the work your team agrees to is agreed to in Slack, and then it scrolls away. Magnetask catches those asks as they are written and turns them into real, assigned, tracked tasks - without anybody having to stop and write them down.

How it works

Four steps, and you only do the first one.

01

Connect it once

An admin authorises Magnetask in Slack. That is the entire setup - there is no channel picker and there are no rules to write.

02

It covers your public channels

Magnetask joins every public channel in the workspace the moment it is connected. Private channels stay private by Slack's own design - one /invite @Magnetask adds any you want included.

03

It reads for requests

A fast, misspelling-tolerant filter runs on every message locally. "Can you call the client back" is a request; "lunch?" is not. Only the former goes any further, so there is no AI cost and no message stored for the rest.

04

A person approves it

Each suggestion arrives in the review queue carrying who asked, which channel, when, and a link back to the original message. You approve, edit or discard it.

Also included

The things you will want on day two.

DM the bot

Anyone can message @Magnetask directly to add a task for themselves. This is the one case that skips the review queue - a self-directed request has nobody to approve it.

Right-click any message

Create task from the message menu, for anything the automatic scan did not pick up. Belt and braces, not either/or.

Bulk approve

Confirm a whole queue of clean suggestions in one click, so reviewing is seconds rather than a chore.

Opt-in auto-confirm

Once a team trusts the accuracy, an admin can auto-confirm the one unambiguous case: a message naming exactly one teammate. Everything else still waits for a person.

Common questions

How does Magnetask turn Slack messages into tasks?
Once Magnetask is connected to your Slack workspace, it reads messages in public channels and detects the ones that are actually requests. Each detected request becomes a draft task carrying who asked, the channel, the time and a link back to the original message. A person approves the draft before it becomes a real task on the board.
Does Magnetask read every message in my Slack?
Magnetask checks messages in the public channels it has joined against a local filter that looks for request-shaped language. Messages that are not requests are ignored and not stored. Private channels are not visible to Magnetask unless somebody explicitly invites it to that channel.
Do I have to choose which Slack channels to connect?
No. Magnetask joins every public channel in the workspace automatically when it is connected, so there is nothing to configure. Private channels are opt-in - run /invite @Magnetask in any private channel you want covered.
Will Magnetask create tasks without me knowing?
No. Every suggestion goes to a review queue and waits for a person to approve it. The only exception is a direct message you send to the bot yourself, which creates a task for you because there is nobody else to approve it. Auto-confirm is off by default and, when switched on, only applies to a message that names exactly one teammate.
Does Magnetask post anything in Slack?
Magnetask does not post into your channels. It reads for requests and creates tasks inside Magnetask; the conversation in Slack is left as it was.
What does the Slack integration cost?
The free plan includes Slack and covers your first 50 captures with no card required. Paid plans start at $18 per month and raise the limits on members, integrations and detection languages.
